A hairy strap

There was a farmer who had a Sami boy servant. One day when they were mowing hay on a bog there came a flock of horses. One of the horses was unusually beautiful and very bold. Servant boy pointed to the horse and mentioned that it would taste good to eat it.
Farmer thought it was strange and became suspicious. For this happened in the days when people did not eat horse meat. The farmer had heard of magic Samis used so they could transform themselves into a bears. These bears, which were called the ghost bears were most dangerous bears.
That night the farmer kept himself awake. Then he saw the boy sneaking out of bed and taking out a hairy strap, which was tied into a ring. Servant boy crawled head first through the strap and at that moment his head turned to a bear's head. He crawled through the strap a second time and then he was hairy like a bear down to the waist. As for the third time he crawled through the belt, he turned fully to bear, and then he ran into the woods.
Toward morning he came back and crawled through the strap, but now on the feet. When he crept three times, he became human again. Then he crawled into bed and fell asleep.
When the boy had fallen asleep farmer took the strap and burned it. Now the boy could never again turn into a ghost bear.
Then the next day saw they the flock of horses, but the most beautiful animal was missing.
