How the bear and the farmer shared harvest

The bear was hungry in the woods. He came by a farmer who was working in a fields.
- Take me to be the helper, - said the bear. I will plow and harrow if I get some of the harvest when it ripens.
- If you do it, how will we share the harvest? - the farmer asked.
So did the bear all the heavy work. When it came time to sow, split the farmer field into two halves.
On one field they sowed wheat, on the other - turnips. It was a nice summer with both rain and sun. The crop grew well. When it was time to harvest the farmer called on the bear and they went to the part where the turnips grew.
- Now you choose, bear, - said the farmer. Do you want it growing above ground or what is hidden below?
The bear looked at the nice and sharp leaves and said that he'll gladly take what's above ground. So the bear took just the leaves and peasant took all the turnips. Then they went off to the half with wheat.
- Now it's only right that I take the roots, - said the bear, - and you may take it, which is above ground.
Farmer was only happy with this. So he got all the wheat and the bear got its roots.
Farmer fried turnips and baked bread from wheat grains. Then he invited the bear for food.
- You have deceived me, - said the bear. Your bread is good, and my tastes just like earth. One day I will take revenge on you for this.
